Teens are NOT All Right

What Would You Say?

Teens are not all right, and there’s an underlying cause—the loss of meaning. In “The Parable of the Madman,” Nietzsche famously declared, “God is dead.” His description of meaninglessness echoes James 1:6: “The one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.” This is the picture of losing the divine reference point. Of course, Christians can also struggle with despair, but even when God feels distant, it matters that He is there. The mental health community is recognizing the connection between meaningful faith and effective therapy. In Scientific American, David Rosmarin noted that during the first year of COVID-19, the patients who saw mental-health improvements were those who attended religious services at least weekly. A Christian worldview has something to offer in this time, a God who is not only alive but who beat death. Because He did, there is meaning.
